5 Factors to Help you Choose the Perfect Wine

We have been on the move! It has been almost two weeks since posting updates and we’ve missed you!
Temecula, has been beautiful this last week or so. While working on our wine outside and on our many of walks, we couldn’t help but notice how much Temecula is in a yellow bloom. Yellow is everywhere – flowers, trees – blooming one last time before the California fall season rolls by. And, hello weather, can it? Although the 90*F is nice, we could use some 60*F! And, today after another week of heat, we are getting relief. Finally. We will be visiting MUCH cooler places next week! We can’t wait to share our adventure.
So, what is new? Aside from getting our steps in around Temecula (..and a few other things – ha!), we have been working hard on our 2022 wines. Primary fermentation is now done. We’ve added yeast and nutrients, drained and pressed the Cabernet Sauvignon and are prepping for movement to barrel. We have included pictures of our Cab drain and press and a bloopers clip from Class 6 of our Winemaking Bootcamp. Below! We do have so much fun!
While on the move this last week, we found some time to plan, brainstorm and really just continue to lay the groundwork of our new company. The topic of Wine Club Membership was discussed. Working in the wine industry the majority of our careers, the Wine Club is always one of the top topics of conversation. We discussed the perfect Wine Club both operationally (grape to enjoyment) as well as for enjoyers… Does it exist? What does it look like? How does it work? How should members feel? Why are members always on the move? Where is the loyalty? Where is the value?
Hometown Wine Company is still a ways away from their own club but we wanted to share our overall thoughts and factors for choosing the perfect Wine Club with you.
So, in case you are on the move to find the perfect Wine Club, here are 5 determining factors to help.
Factor 1. Wine
Is wine your focus or a reason for joining the Wine Club? What kind of wine drinker are you? Are you new to wine? Advanced and knowledgeable? Professional? Do you like the wine at the winery you’re choosing? Not a wine drinker but want to give the wine as gifts? Is it important on where the winery sources grapes, vineyard maintenance, winemaking style and their sustainability efforts? Do you connect with their wine brand and message?
Factor 2. Education
Is education your focus or a reason for joining the Wine Club? Do you want to learn about different varietals, regions and your palate? Does the winery give the educational experience to grow and learn in wine? Or, maybe wine education is not as important since you are knowledgable?
Factor 3. Value
What is value? We see value as not only the cost of the wine but benefits received, discounts and location relative to cost of shipping, delivery and compliance (Can you visit? OR Can they get the wine to you?). How important is it to personalize your own shipments verses shipments being curated for you? What happens if you do not like a wine? How often are the Wine Club shipments? How is their customer service? Are you really a VIP?
Factor 4. Events
Are winery events an important factor to joining the Wine Club? Member only nights, Grape Stomps, Winemaker Dinners, themed community events, concerts, private tasting and tours are important to many. Maybe events aren’t at the top of your list? Each Wine Club is different – many are event focused, others are not focused on events at all.
Factor 5. Community
Being a part of a club, any club, brings camaraderie and a sense of belonging. Do you want your Wine Club to be your hangout spot – servers are like friends? Or maybe a location to bring friends, family or clients to enjoy the wine, views and atmosphere? Many wineries and Wine Clubs are active in the community – is this something you value and want to take part?
These 5 factors offer a guideline to help navigate your decision to… join the club or not join the club. Shakespeare said it perfectly.
We hope this helps you find your Wine Club home.
